READ PRODUCT LABELS
Before you recycle a product, check for labels that indicate if it can be recycled.

Plastic commonly has one of the labels to the right.

REDUCE CONTAMINATION
When recycling metal, do not include cans that have contained paint, herbicides, or pesticides.

When recycling glass do not include plates or drinking glasses, Pyrex, tempered glass, glass bulbs, mirrors, and auto glass.
​
Do not recycle napkins, soiled paper, or carbon paper.
​
Do not recycle soiled pizza boxes.
WASH RECYCLABLES WHEN NEED BE
Before recycling metals, make sure to wash out the containers.

Wash glass and plastic containers before recycling.
​
Make sure there is minimal food residue to avoid contamination.
REDUCE PRODUCTS THAT NEED TO BE RECYCLED
The best thing to do is to reduce the number of items you need to recycle. Reducing the amount of waste you create can be done by using fewer single-use items.
Reducing waste might look like using reusable bags instead of plastic bags, getting a reusable water bottle instead of plastic water bottles, or purchasing products with less packaging.
